As discussed last week, a professional gambler may deduct “ordinary and necessary” business expenses incurred in connection with the trade or business of gambling under section 162(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Pokerfuse Sports a New Look

You may have noticed that things around pokerfuse have a fresh new look. At the beginning of the month we rolled out a new homepage design that has afforded us some increased flexibility in emphasizing the important stories. We’ve increased some of our image sizes, highlighted some of our featured stories and for some of the more important stories, you might even see us bring out the “Big Daddy.”

So far a we’ve heard some really positive feedback regarding our new digs, but as always, we encourage our readers to continue to provide feedback on how we can improve: Even if it is related to the look and feel of the site.

Meeting Scheduled for Legislators to Discuss Iowa Online Poker Bill

Law and Regulation:

In Iowa, a Senate Subcommittee meeting to discuss online poker bill SSB 3164 is scheduled for this afternoon. The meeting comes as Iowa kicks off “funnel week” where state lawmakers look to advance proposed legislation through committees in preparation for a full debate on the floor.

Utah Businessman Accused of Illegal Payment Processing

Law and Regulation:

St. George businessman Jeremy Johnson is accused of concealing $51.4m, most of which is believed to have been acquired as a result of processing online poker payments, according to the Salt Lake City Tribune.

This week pokerfuse welcomed a few new shows to our Poker Podcast Directory. You will now find the latest episodes as well as old archives for Three Streets of Value, The Kenna James Hour and The Best of OnTiltRadio featured in the directory, courtesy of OnTiltRadio.com.

The new additions peaked my curiosity. I quickly took advantage of the new listings and tuned into The Kenna James Hour. I had heard Kenna on other podcasts before but I had no idea what type of show to expect. The show is co-hosted by Christina Sayer and though I didn’t dig into the archives to see what previous shows were like, it seems that they were just starting a new program for beginners to learn the game.
